Scott Higginbotham in hunt for Reds' starting role

HEAVY-hitting Scott Higginbotham can force a starting role in Queensland's Super 14 plans by playing the bully-boy back-rower against Auckland Blues in today's trial in Auckland.

Higginbotham's timing, training form and extra maturity have been impressive during the off-season since his blooding as a wet-behind-the-ears rookie in five Super 14 games last season.

He also fits the bill in terms of size - an athletic 112kg - for the huge challenge of confronting the massive Bulls pack in Pretoria in the Super 14 opener on February 14.
